update: Zooomr MII is now live.
The launch of Zooomr MIII has been fraught with problems, and after launching they expeirenced a horrific server crash which has taken the service offline for another few days. After a fantastic response from the community: with Sun sending a server to help with storage (an incredible 24tb monster) and Dell getting their fried server back and running. And especially to ZOHO for providing Zooomr with much new colocation facilities. However, even more unfortunately the external server hosting the Zooomr blog is also experiencing problems- and thus they are unable to update the blog- and updates are divulged using a live video stream with irc chat and a wiki.[alt link for wiki] Kris is currently waiting to get all of the equipment running and working and ready to handle the load before launching.

Just a quick few updates:
- The plugin sending out the google analytics javascript was somehow sending and End of File, which is bad and stopped the site from loading.
- My ibook is going in for some repair work to be done- the broken logic board specifically.
- I’ve recently purchased an R4DS, and will post detailing my experiences running homebrew on it after my exams are done with on the 25th.
- I’ve also rolled the theme back to Binary Blue as I’ve decided that I prefer it to K2, and will be incorporating more of the design of this incarnation into the upcoming re-code of my blog into django; that is to say total re-write of my blog and a hand rolled CMS to power it.
- ZOOOMR is currently about to launch MII, and have had some technical difficulties, although it should be back up in hours instead of days. The dedication shown by Kris in getting this new release has been incredible- and MIII looks to be quite a new experience in photo sharing.
Anyways, I wont be able to update in the coming week as I have a large selection of delectable exams to enjoy. ¬.¬

There’s one word to describe the way I work with my computers:
Paranoid.
So when my ibook kernal panics within minutes of booting, I panic. Then I google. Then I disable the Airport chip. ‘Sallright I can live without wireless until Summer and I’ve the time to get AppleCare to service it (it’s in daily use and mission critical).
Then, it crashed. And the screen didn’t come back on when I rebooted. And removed the battery. And rebooted. And remembered. A reboot holding on to the left side of the button was enough to get the not so aptly named ‘mr-t’ back on its’ feet for long enough to get the important files off (and still going). I’m taking it in to AppleCare (because they cancelled computer collection) on Monday, and if there’s no improvement. I’ll be getting a thinkpad.
Silly wordpress, this should work better now.

Starting tuesday I begin my GCSE examinations. They’re mainly spread over June- but there are some this month. I’ll try to post a comment here after each day, but don’t expect to see anything here until the end of June. Then expect to see quite a bit.
Until then,

In their current issue, PCPRO are running a feature entitled 32 Reasons why PCs are better than macs, I’m taking the oppurtunity to rebuff many of them as mac myths; of course- they do make some valid points, but too many shots are plain wrong. Firstly, for all their claims of not being anti-mac bigots I only highlight their choices for the Mac and PC; beating the Apple adverts by a long shot in insensitive stereotyping.

I’ve just got back from seeing the barenaked ladies live with an old friend in the Southampton guildhall.
They were awesome.
Truly the last post until after the exams now.

This is going to be the last post until June the 25th. My GCSE exams are starting next month and contininuing at an alarming pace until late June. Lots of stress and less sleep than optimum, so I’m going to be studying as much as I can for the next few months. After that I’ve got to prepare for 6th form, get a summer job, and play through 3 Zeldas.
There’s also a fairly awesome project in the works to program over the summer with a friend.
That’s it for a few months, wish me luck.

This is a post devoted to the ‘little things’ that make using OSX fun for me. A long overdue last article for the week in apps series.
My Adium set up: as you can see this offers little clue as to who’s online apart from their avatar(display picture, buddy icon etc.) However, I find that this approach uses far less screen space than having their name displayed. Growl is highly utilised with this approach as I assoiciate their icon when they log in, or mouse-over to find it. It’s also set to auto-hide on the left hand side of my screen.
- iClip4, this is essentially a multi-clipboard, which; for me is essential. I use it at the bottom of my screen where the Dock would usually go, and although it’s slightly sluggish on my PPC mac mini- it’s reasonable.
- The precise location of the dock- right and bottom aligned. (Using deeper) Small icons, hiding on and no magnification.
- Cytv this lets me watch tv on my ibook, whilst the tuner is plugged into my mac mini.
- Letterbox Mail plugin, because I spent too much time in Outlook 2003 before switching. Quicksilver and Visor. Emminently neccessary. Visor especially for living in a terminal window.
